Required by law to reveal age on job applications

It's it ironic how in a year when Age Discrimination Legislation takes effect and we should be employing people irrespective of their age and making it even less relevant that they put date of birth on a CV, that there is now a law requiring people to disclose their age as part of job applications. This makes discrimination easier rather than harder.

The relevant law is The Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Businesses Regulations 2003 and requires an agency to have either your passport or birth certificate. Both of which, naturally, reveal your age.

I wonder what married women without passports do if they are using their married name. A marriage certificate is not a valid form of ID.
